The
lumbar area of the spine is that portion
that makes up the lower back, often referred
to as the small of the back. The lumbar spine
is comprised of five vertebral bodies, but
a majority of its motion weighs on one segment
of this spinal area. The excess action in
this area makes its discs more susceptible
to degeneration.
The lower back pain that results from a herniated
lumbar disc can be treated through a number
of options. Usually the last resort, but
the most advanced, is percutaneous laser
disc decompression, or PLDD. Learn
about that procedure.
